Unsettling the Line

Unsettling the Line is a multidisciplinary installation that begins with the recording of an everyday routine between work, university and home. For several months, these journeys were recorded using Strava, a tool designed to measure physical activity and performance. The repetition of these routes draws a line across the map that gradually becomes a representation of a way of organising time and the body. From this route, I begin to deliberately deviate from the line, recording each journey and later transcribing it by hand. As the routes accumulate, the initial line begins to deform.

At the same time, the photographic work focuses on the spaces that form part of this routine. The images seek out straight lines, geometric forms and repetitive elements, as if the structure of the route could also be found within the architecture. The line distorted by the journeys is then brought back onto these photographs, transferring the same tension to the images. The work as a whole records how a line transforms when it is deliberately unsettled.
